Agenda Item: VII.C.

Consider/Approve Request to Declare Property Surplus and Dispose Via Most Economical Method

Background Information :

Obion County Central High School has submitted a request to the Board to declare surplus a storage building that was used as a concession stand for the softball team. The storage building is not being utilized, is not in very good shape, and is in need of being disposed. The estimated value of the storage building is less than the amount specified in TCA §49-6-2007(d)(1), which provides, “Surplus personal property in local school systems which has no value or has a value less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250), may be disposed of without the necessity of bids as required by this section.” However, there has been some interest from individuals in the community about purchasing the storage building. Therefore, pending Board approval, bids will be solicited to dispose of this personal property.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend the Board declare the above-noted storage building as surplus and approve the disposition via advertisement and sealed bids. In the alternative, if we happen not to receive any bids on this building, we request to dispose of the storage building via the most economical method.
